Macroalgae Art Workshop : Part 2

Looking for way to get creative in the new year? Join TBEP and Manatee County for a two-part workshop that combines marine botany, adventure, and art! Macroalgae, also known as seaweed, is a plant-like organism found in Tampa Bay. During this workshop, we will collect, press, and dry these colorful clumps. A week later, we’ll use them to make beautiful marine- inspired artwork.

On Saturday, January 25, we will kayak through Perico Bayou and collect a variety of red and green algae. We’ll then place our macroalgae on a plant press. Kayaks, nets, and plant presses will be provided for all participants.

On Saturday, February 1, we will use our dried macroalgae to create marine-inspired artwork. Participants will be able to take home their algae pressing kit.
